Today’s topic will be methadone addiction. Methadone was invented in Germany in 1937. because it was thought that there would be a shortage of opium which is needed to make morphine.
The drug was given the trade name of Dolphine which is latin I always thought it was named after Hitler I bet a lot of others out there are misinformed too.
It is pretty much the same as morphine and heroin but it is chemically different. It does act on the opioid receptors therefore it is great for managing chronic pain and it is has very long lasting effects.
Methadone is also a lot cheaper than many other leading drugs like hydromorphine and hydrocodone. It is also useful for people who have become dependent on heroin but be for warned that methadone detox is no picnic.
Methadone can be used to stabilize heroin addicts with oral doses of 65 to 85 mg can block the euphoric effects of heroin as a result of this opiate addicts can stop there dependence on other drugs like heroin.
Methadone was introduced to the United States in 1947 by Eli Lilly and they gave it the trade name Dolphine. Today it is best know for treating heroin addicts. Methadone maintenance has been the most studied therapy for the treatment of drug addicted patients.
Ok then we have learned a little bit about the history of methadone now lets talk a little about the actual methadone program.
If you are addicted to heroin you have some options as far as how you choose to stop using heroin. There is heroin detox at home where you basically go heroin cold turkey which means you will have no drugs to help with your heroin withdrawal.
Methadone rapid detox
Next we have the heroin ultra rapid detox this will be done in a treatment facility and you will be taken care of by a staff of trained professionals. Once you are admitted you will be given anesthesia to render you unconscious then you will be given medications to remove all the opiates from your body. When you awaken chances are better than average that you remember absolutely nothing about your heroin rapid detox. This same process can basically be used in a like manner to help with methadone detox.
I have never tried this method and do not know anyone who has so all I am going by is what I have read. I have heard that it could be dangerous and that some people have died from detoxing this way because of being under for so long.
methadone maintenance
Last there is methadone maintenance which I would avoid if at all possible. The reason I say this is that it is very addicting. I have done the methadone maintenance gig myself. I was strung out on methadone for several years.
I was there long enough to get 6 take homes a week. I felt like I was chained down to the methadone treatment center because for instance, if you ever wanted to go on vacation or something it was a pain in the ass. They can set you up to dose along the way from state to state so I would not worry about it. I just want every one to know what they are getting into.
I had a methadone addiction as long as my leg I my dose was 180mg a day and I wanted more even though I no longer felt it after the first month or so. The only way I was able to stop using methadone is that I got busted for something and went to jail. When I got to jail I told them I that I was on methadone maintenance but I was in Berrien County and they did not give a shit and told me that I would not die and gave me nothing.
I was sicker than a dog I did not sleep or eat for a couple weeks. Now you know what you are getting into if you choose a methadone detox. I will add this that it is probably OK if you try the 21 day methadone detox and then cut it loose. I know from my experience that some make it this way and others go on to methadone maintenance.

ive been on methadone for 2 yrs and it is very very hard to get off of. i am so tired of this i am considering rapid detox. im not caring about the risks, i just want my life back. if i would have been told from the beginning, that it was 7 times more addicting than the drugs i was taking, and it was like this, i would never have started this.
