Alcohol is one of the most commonly used addictive substances. Apart from those with religious reasons, alcohol is enjoyed in almost every corner of the world and has a part in the lives of nearly everyone over twenty-one (along with many under-aged drinkers). Despite the fact that alcohol is commonly accepted, it is still a very addictive substance and one that can prove to be fatal to one’s well-being and health.
Alcohol misuse and abuse is what we call behavior where one drinks many alcoholic beverages despite the bad effects that it has on their life.
The side-effects of alcohol abuse
What is too much alcohol? This is really an answer that each person must decide for themselves. Some believe that an occasional drink is fine, while others don’t mind partying hard every night.
The physical side-effects of alcohol abuse most commonly include anxiety, poor judgment, irritability, and the inability to sleep. If alcohol is abused in excess, it may become fatal. Alcohol affects the liver and often leads to liver failure. Poor choices made while drunk often lead to sexually transmitted diseases, automobile accidents, unintentional injuries, and even suicide. The effects of alcohol abuse on ones life can lead to divorce, being fired from a job, the loss of friends, and a poor financial situation.
Do you find yourself constantly looking for ways to purchase alcohol? Is a visit to the grocery not complete without buying some sort of alcohol? Has alcohol (such as hangovers) played a part in a lost job or bad relations between yourself and a family member? Do you find yourself choosing to spend money on alcohol rather than groceries? Do you believe that life would be worthless if you couldn’t get drunk or buzzed? If you answered “yes” to any of the previous questions, you probably have an alcohol abuse problem.

If you can talk the person into attending one of there AA meetings they may find that they actually like it and get involved in the program. Through these programs, you will be able to get control over your addiction and your life back in order. For this to happen you will have to take action if you do indeed want to recover from alcoholism.
