Help for Heroin withdrawal
One of there hardest things for an addict to go through is heroin withdrawal. I say this from experience. I am not one of those people who write about things that I have not been through personally and if I have not I will let my readers know this. Honesty is one of the many things I have learned in my recovery from heroin addiction.
One thing I can tell you for sure is that if you are planning on kicking heroin cold turkey you will have your work cut out for you. I will give you some heroin withdrawal tips to help you get through it.
heroin withdrawal
First of all I would stay awake as much as I possibly could a day or two before you intend to stop heroin. This should help you to sleep through the worst of your withdrawal. Next I would invite a friend or family member to come stay with you during your heroin detox. They can serve as a sort of moral support for you when the going gets tough. They may be the deciding factor whether you make it or not.
Lastly you will have to face insomnia, diarrhea, cramps, and headaches. Being that you will not have any medication to help with this you may want to go to your local drug store and pick up some Motrin, Benadryl, and Imodium. These should help make things go a little smoother for you. Unfortunately most people that go this route give up before they are half way through their heroin withdrawal.
Heroin withdrawal
I have used this method more than once to kick heroin and it does work but like I said earlier it will not be easy you will have to take action if you want to get clean. Getting clean starts when we surrender to the fact that we can no longer use any type of drugs successful then recovery is possible.
Now if this does not work for you I would suggest that you enter some type of heroin addiction treatment. If you do go you will be medically detoxed for heroin withdrawal. This will take approximately 5 to 7 days depending on how much and how often you used.
12 step meetings
I would also suggest that upon completion of your heroin detox that you go to residential treatment. There you will meet other addicts just like yourself who are trying to stop using drugs. You will be required to attend 12 step meetings, lectures, group, and one on one addiction therapy. All of this is to prepare you for when you leave rehab. The idea is that it will help you to remain clean and not return to rehab.
