Addiction and Use of Meth

Meth, also known as methamphetamine, dextromethamphetamine, methamphetamine, methyl amphetamine, crystal meth, and desoxyephedrine, is most often used for illegal purposes. Although it was once used to treat everything from hay fever to mild depression, now the only legal use of methamphetamine is for prescription treatment of ADHD (attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder) and exogenous obesity.

In this article, I’m going to be focusing on the illegal uses of the insidious drug meth and the meth addict.

Those who use meth in small doses report increased energy, concentration, and alertness. In high doses, meth can increase self-esteem and libido while giving you a feeling of euphoria. Many users also experience a loss of appetite.

The side effects of meth are many and most of them are very frightening. Some include irritability, anorexia (due to lack of appetite), restlessness, headaches, aggressive behavior, and feelings of invincibility, paranoia, convulsions, heart attack, strokes, and even death. With large amounts of meth use, the meth addict may develop amphetamine psychosis.

Crystal meth addiction

Taking meth while you are pregnant or breast-feeding often leads to babies who are meth addicted themselves. Although not a direct cause of meth, users often loose their teeth, develop bad hygiene habits, and contract sexually transmitted diseases.

Meth is most often given in intravenous injection (with a needle), but some people also smoke it, snort it, swallow it, or use it as a suppository. With that being said meth addiction is often compared to crack cocaine addiction because crack is smoked it too.

Although the amount the amount it takes to cause crystal meth addiction varies from person to person, it is still a very dangerous drug that has a high risk of becoming addictive. As with most addictive substances, your body often adjusts to the amount used and needs more and more every time.

Meth withdrawal

While meth withdrawal is not usually dangerous, getting off meth for the average meth addict is still a very hard process. Many people return to their addiction after they have gone through withdrawal. With those who use meth regularly, withdrawl symptoms may include sleepiness, increased appetite, terrible depression (more severe than that of cocaine users), and anxiety along with cravings.

Meth is not safe and should not be played or experimented with. If you have a problem with meth addiction, please get in touch with a drug counselor, support group, like NA is really good or you may want to talk to a trust-worthy friend who can assist you in your search for help. Although withdrawal from any drug is a hard process, it can be accomplished and you can be free again. If you think you may have a problem with this drug please seek help now!

Good luck
