History of dilaudid addiction

Today I decided to give my readers a little information on dilaudid and its history. It was said at the time of the invention of dilaudid that they were trying to improve on the popular drug of that time which was morphine. Now if you are not aware morphine is very addicting and if fact was coined the soldier’s disease because of this. Now do not be confused dilaudid is just as addicting as morphine or heroin for that matter. So in my opinion as far as addiction goes they did not improve on anything. People became addicted to this drug soon after it reach the local drug stores.

Hydromorphone or better know to addicts as dilaudid was first synthesized and researched in Germany in 1924 and approved and distributed to the mass market by Knoll pharmaceutical in 1926 under the brand name Dilaudid; furthermore, it was said to be derived from morphine and similar to laudanum a very popular drug of the time.  

Dilaudid can be found under many generic trade names like- Palladone, Palladone SR, Dilaudid is a very potent analgesic drug which comes from the opioid class. It is derived from  and therefore it is classified as a semi-synthetic drug. It is also used medically as a opioid analgesic or pain reliever and legally a narcotic.

Many people get hooked on this drug by going to the doctor for one type of pain or another. What happens is they start out taking it as prescribed and one day they happen to be in more pain than usual and there normal dose does not relieve their pain. Then they take more until the pain has been alleviated. If this is continued often enough the person will build up a tolerance to the medication. Then they will have to take more and more to achieve the desired affect. This is the onset of dilaudid addiction.

Today addicts are very fortunate there are drug rehabs practically everywhere. Back in the day when people became addicted to drugs they were chucked in an asylum and forgotten about.
